A Door In Every Wall

A Door In Every Wall is 3D puzzle about mazes, robots, color coordination and battery management. In it, the player takes control a tiny bot, making their way through a handful of complex mazes. To solve them, they must collect colorful chips, which offer the ability to create portals in similarly colored walls. Enemies are also color-coordinated though, and will seek out anyone carrying chips of their same hue.

Details

- Made in Unreal Engine 4 -

- Solo personal project -

- Coded both in C++ and in blueprints -

Main design goals

- Designing a challenging yet calming experience -

- Blending top-down classic maze solving mechanics with a 3rd person camera approach -

- Designing demanding puzzles with no physical-skill requirements, such as quick-reactions -

- Making maze-like levels feel disorientating, but not enough for the player to consistently have to check a map to know where they are -

What I did

(As the only person in the project)

- Designed 6 maze-like puzzle levels, ranging from tutorial-like difficulty to very challenging  -

- Simple roaming, path-following and chasing NPCs -

- Save system -

- Several minor interactables (such as the chips, slowing pads and jumping pads) -

- UI, animation and particle effects implementation -

- Sound implementation -
